Analysis of the acoustical effect of the renovation of the De Scheg arena
The ice-skating arena De Scheg in Deventer, Holland is about to be renovated and Tyréns was asked to analyse the acoustical effect different steps of the construction process would have. It is a big challenge, and not just because the acoustical analysis needs to be applicable to several different kinds of events.
The arena is situated in the city centre, close to some residential areas, which increases the risk for noise pollution in the surrounding areas. The interior is not enclosed and the side walls are partially open. There are plans for adding a membranous roof and filling in the openings in some of the walls. A special technique for calculating the different solutions will be required since there will still be openings in the walls. Applying the solutions will improve the sound environment for the surrounding residential areas, where the residents are currently complaining about the level of noise.
