CADCOM

CADCOM: Tyréns system for documenting traffic signal networks.

CADCOM is an information system for optoelectronics, traffic signals and coaxial cables. The information concerns location and properties for cables and junctions.

CADCOM processes:

  • Optoelectronic cables
  • Coaxial cables
  • Traffic signal cables
  • Phone cables

The information that concerns the location and the background map are processed in the graphical part of the system based on AutoCAD. The background maps and the network are processed as a seamless mass of information. The information concerning the structures and the network is processed by using a database connected to a documentation system.

Efficient information search

CADCOM provides an efficient way to search for information. Just click on a cable on the map and you will receive instant information about that cable from the database. If you are searching for a junction in the database you will receive its location on the map. You can use the database to create reports of network construction and operational difficulties. CADCOM provides a structured and easy to use way to process the network information.

Input

You can capture data to CADCOM by digitalising existing materials for maps or by converting to DFX and DWG formats for the location bound information. The property information can be imported to CADCOM from other systems or pre-existing bases. Besides these options, CADCOM includes an array of easy to use functions that allows you to put the network into the system. You should use some of the pre-defined symbols and the efficient drawing tool from Autodesk map if you want to create a map of all the cables.

User friendly interface

The interface in CADCOM is based on Windows and sports pop-up menus and dialogue windows. This makes CADCOM much more user friendly. All of the commands are grouped into three pop-up menus. There is also a possibility to add your own commands. The dialogue windows come in Swedish and are both well arranged and user friendly. The dialogue windows are for alterations, input and to search for information related to the cables and junctions. Click a cable or a junction and fill out the information in the dialogue window and the click the "update" button to save the information in the database.

Connection to documenting software

CADCOM can be connected to a number of documenting softwares. They are based on a database processor. Now you can also connect it to BABS from Mirakelbolaget.

System strategy

The information in CADCOM consists of a geometric section and a section for attribute data. The geometric section is constructed of objects like link boxes, wires and antennas for example. These are processed with the help of Autodesk Map in CADCOM. The section for attribute data includes data on the properties of the different objects, such as the kind of wire, its material and its fabrication. These data will be stored in a database that uses the MS Access format.

Autodesk was founded in 1982 and it is the world's leading supplier of softwares, construction solutions, design and digital information. The software is most often used for the construction industry, GIS, manufacturing industry, digital media and wireless communications. AutoCAD's own internal sketching format, DWG, is a quick and well developed format for graphic use.

BABS uses the data base processor Btrieve, one of the world's most commonly used database processors.

CADCOM is ideally used in a network and together with multiple user licences for Autodesk Map this becomes a flexible and economical environment for multiple users. CADCOM can be used with Autodesk Map 5/6/2004/3d 2005.
