Nordstjärnan, student accommodation in Eskilstuna

The 80 new student accommodation units are located in Kv. Nordstjärnan in the historic Munktell district of Eskilstuna. The accommodation is in a central location just a few minutes' walk from the city centre and Mälardalen University. The building was ready for occupancy in January 2019.

The apartments are for the most part single-room units measuring 25 square metres, but there are also some two-room units. The layout is simple: one room for everyday living, sleeping and cooking, plus a toilet with shower. On the ground floor are apartments, service functions, a laundry room and a furnished inner courtyard with vegetation. Tyréns was involved from the detailed planning stage through to construction.

The new building fits in with the rendered facades of the existing residential buildings. The outside of the building is completely red. The facade is rendered red, with red window frames and red door units.

The windows are sited irregularly to create a sense of movement in the smooth facade. The red colour is continued on details in the building's interior, with red bannisters on the stairs and red doors to the apartments.
